Amazon Is Releasing a Second Generation Fire TV Cube Adding HDR10+ and Voice Control

The thought has come to mind to purchase a Fire TV Cube. Good thing I held off from buying the device as Amazon is on the verge of releasing a second-generation model. Similar functional features to the first generation variant, the new Fire TV Cube will offer upgrades over the original version. The noticeable change is to Hardware. The Fire TV Cube will now have an octa-core processor. According to Amazon, this makes it the "fastest most powerful Fire TV" ever.

Amazon states that it will offer up to a 2X max performance over the first-generation model, along with full access to Dolby Vision and 4K Ultra HD content at up to 60 Frames Per Second. When it comes to high dynamic range, not only will it offer Dolby Vision technology, it also supports HDR10+ content.

But wait, there's more.

The second-generation Fire TV Cube also boasts Local Voice Control, which is a new on-device processing feature that rapidly executes specific commands, such as "Alexa, go home," and "Alexa, scroll right." Amazon is claiming its four times faster, compared to the first-generation model.

Other upgrades are a far-field voice recognition that's built right in the device. The new Fire TV Cube is laced with eight microphones and beam-forming technology. The Fire TV Cube combines signals in each receiver. Suppressing noise, vibration, currently played content, and even competing for speech just so that Alexa can hear commands with ease.

Now in regards to pricing and availability, you can preorder the Fire TV Cube for $119.99 and will ship on October 10th. Adding to the central unit, it will come with an IR extender cable, Ethernet adapter, and Alexa Voice Remote. As a consumer, you have the option to bundle the Fire TV Cube with Ring Video Doorbell 2 at $249.99.

Just when you thought I was done.

Amazon will also offer a Fire TV Edition Soundbar. Very similar to Roku's soundbar announced earlier this week. The Fire TV Edition Soundbar will upgrade the TV's sound while streaming your favorite content. The Nebula Soundbar preorders at $229.99 and will ship in November.
