Lets Take a Close Look at The Newly Revealed PS5 Dual Sense Controller
In the midst of what's going on in the world, the last thing I expected was great news from coming to Sony. A few days ago, the tech giant revealed the DualSense PS5 controller that's filled with some intriguing features. The controller will be launched right alongside the PS5 console in late 2020 right before the Xmas shopping season.
In-depth, let us take a close examination of the PS5 controller design and features.
Pay Close Attention To The Main Features
It's safe to say the PS5 Dual-Sense controller did not stray far away from the rumored features. You can read all about it on this website I posted a while back. It will feature a Haptic feedback sensor that replaces the DualShock 4's rumble technology.
The rumble technology has longingly been the main staple of the PS4 controller. But intense vibration gaming didn't seem like it wasn't fine-tuned to the player's overall experience. With the Haptic feedback, you have a sufficiently stimulating touch. Meaning the controller will offer vibrations and movements replicating real-life touch experience.
The controller will also feature adaptive triggers that Sony stated have "been incorporated into the trigger buttons (L2/R2)". The adaptive triggers will allow many developers to program the resistance of the triggers to stimulate actions more accurately.
Don't expect the Share Button to be on the Dual-Sense controller; there will instead be a Create Button that will have the same function. Sony quoted by saying: "We're once again pioneering new ways for players to create epic gameplay content to share with the world, or just enjoy for themselves," We probably get a more detail look at this feature as the launch date approaches.
Another exciting feature on the Dual-Sense controller is an audio jack, which enables players to plug any headphones or headsets. It will also include a built-in microphone; Sony states you'll be able to communicate with friends online without the use of the game-pad.
The Overall Design
The Dual-Sense controller will take on an entirely new form factor. Honestly, it almost resembles the Xbox controller as it's slightly thicker than the DualShock 4. A glaring difference between the Dual-Sense and DualShock controllers is its two-tone design. The light bar placement has also changed instead of being located at the very top of the controller. It will now be situated directly on both sides of the touchpad.
The Battery Life
I'm hoping that the Dual-Sense controller will have a longer-lasting battery life than the PS4 controller. My gut feeling tells me it will. Sony's statement regarding battery life does sound very promising. "We also took thoughtful consideration into ways to maintain strong battery life for DualSense's rechargeable battery," Sony also promises an up to date charging cable, you can now charge the PS5 controller via the USB Type-C connector.
The Price Tag
Sony has not yet confirmed a price point for the Dual-Sense controller. The PS4 controller retails for $59. So I'm guessing the controller will cost a few dollars more, say around $69. Based on my gathered information, the pricing of the PS5 controller will be announced in the coming months, just ahead of launch.
