A Samsung 870 8TB Consumer SSD preorder appears on Amazon website
As of late, you're starting to see unannounced products magically appear on the vendor's website, without even a grandstand announcement from the company. Samsung placed its two new consumer-grade SSDs on the Amazon website as a pre-order, creating a minimal buzz in the tech realm. The two SSD's in focus is Samsung’s QVO SATA 3 product line, with greater emphasis on capacity over speed.
Firstly, appearing on Amazon's website is the 870 QVO 1TB SSD ( MZ-77Q1TB0B/AM), priced at just $129.99. The pending MSRP pricing will most likely be much lower. On the same site, this particular SSD will compete against other storage drive heavyweights, such as PNY, Crucial, and Western Digital, having SSD’s with the same capacity at 1TB and price at $100.
Bring your attention to Samsung's other unannounced SSD, the 8TB version. Rarely would you find an SSD having a high storage capacity as a consumer option on a known vendor’s website. If you don't mind pealing out $900 ( actual asking price) from the wallet, then this particular SSD might be a compelling option. Like the 1TB variant, this specific storage drive competes with other products on Amazon, 7.68TB Micro 5210 Ion, selling for $849.
For the sake of throwing out information, high capacity SSD's are made possible by the use of quad-level cell (QLC) technology. The technology itself is very affordable to produce, but there is a caveat regarding overall performance. Higher capacity SSD's aren't known for having high read/write speed numbers. At best, they'll achieve speeds of up to 550MBs sec read/ 520MBs/ sec write with a 4TB storage capacity.
Currently, on Amazon, the 1TB 870 QVO SSD is expected to be available to consumers on the 30th, while the 8TB variant will make its market appearance on August 20th. Expect a future announcement from Samsung in the days to come.
