How to install RAM in Three Paragraphs or less
Installing RAM into a PC is probably the most straightforward task you’ll partake in when upgrading or building a new computer. Tools for this task aren’t needed, nor do you have to install drivers to jump-start hardware. The key is if you want a seamless installation, you must know your computer. Meaning, what type of memory module is compatible with the computer’s motherboard. Whether you’re building a whole new system or just upgrading, in three paragraphs or less, here's how you install RAM into a computer.
1: Assuming you purchased the right type of RAM for your computer, it's time to install your RAM. First, before you take the panel off your computer, as always, be sure you ground yourself when engaging in any PC hardware. Static charge can do irreparable damage to hardware. Observe your motherboard; you'll notice four slots that are usually situated next to the processor socket. Make sure your RAM stick goes in the correct slot, revert to the manual of your motherboard.
2: There are retention clips on both sides of the slots. Push the retention clips in its downward position. Once you have done that, you may insert your RAM into the slots. Gently push down on the RAM until the retention clips "click." Do the same with the other RAM stick assuming you have two. All done
3: Wait, you're not finished just yet. You want to make sure your system is "seeing" your RAM. Go into your computer's Bios settings. Do so by powering up the system, while booting, press the Delete or F2 key. Now locate the system information section and look for information on the number of RAM that's in the computer. If it reads that RAM you just installed, you have succeeded installation.
Quick Note: Never mismatch RAM speeds; doing this, by default, the computer will operate using the lowest available, thus causing system instability.
