As Confirmed: There's Updated Specs On NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 and Release Date
For months, there have been speculations, leaks, and rumors of an upgraded GeForce RTX 2060, including increased memory and other critical upgrades. However, Nvidia's latest GeForce driver update on their website has pretty much confirmed a new graphics card will hit the consumer market.
Even though the upgraded graphics card is listed on the website, a formal announcement from NVIDIA hasn't taken place just yet. But based on our findings, it appears that the upgraded card is indeed in existence, leaving plenty of room for optimism.
Much like the GeForce RTX 2060 6GB variant currently on the market, the refreshed GeForce RTX 2060 12GB is based on Turing technology, manufactured on a 12-nanometer FinFET process.
The upgraded graphics card comes with twice the memory at 12GB, linked to the same 192-bit memory bus, resulting in the same 336GB/s memory bandwidth. In addition, the extra memory capacity will aid in higher resolution gaming, impacting overall performance.
What caught my attention was the added amount of CUDA cores. The refreshed card will feature 2,176 CUDA cores, amounting to a 13.3 percent increase over 1.920 CUDA cores currently on the 6GB model. The card also has a significantly higher base clock at 1,470MHz compared to 1,365MHz and a slightly lower boost clock at 1,650MHz compared to 1,680MHz.
The GeForce RTX 2060 6GB was launched to market three years ago, circa 2018. However, with the current supply shortage of graphics cards, the new upgrade model will likely have a high price tag. For reference, the 6GB model debuted retail price at $349, with add-in board partners commanding an even higher price for custom cooling and overclocked models.
According to reports, NVIDIA stated that there would be no Founders Edition model, quote; "Check with AIB partners on pricing. Its premium product will be priced accordingly on their SKU."
In addition, NVIDIA had also stated that the GeForce RTX 2060 12GB would launch to market on December 7th, which is several days from now. We will post an update once there is an official announcement from the company. Stay tuned.
