In Other News: As reported, Acer gets hit with a $50 million ransomware demand.

So we have something developing with Acer, the Taiwanese-based company known for manufacturing laptops, desktop computers, and other tech products has been hit with a $50 million ransomware demand from a hacking group. As reported by Bleeping Computer, it's the most significant ransomware demand to date. Also reported from Bleeping Computer, the attackers may have gained access to companies' computer manufacturer's network via a Microsoft Exchange vulnerability. The hacker group is better known as REvil, has carried out the same ransomware attack on Travelex last year is suspected to be behind the attack on Acer.

Bleeping Computer states that Acer has until March 28TH to respond to the ransomware demand with payment, or it will leak the data they claim they have accumulated. Recently, Microsoft has released numerous security updates to fix any vulnerabilities exploit discovered in its Exchange software.

Via Bleeping Computer, Acer put out this statement;

"Companies like us are constantly under attack, and we have reported recent abnormal situations observed to the relevant law enforcement and data protection authorities in multiple countries."

Now, if you closely read this statement, Acer has not hinted whether or not it was the victim of a ransomware exploit, but they did add there was an "ongoing investigation." No other comments from the company on this security issue.
