Everything You Need Know About The New Colorful iMac
Apple held their Spring event this past Tuesday, unveiling several products of interest. But what caught my attention the most is the new iMac. Not just any iMac with the familiar design and grayish color scheme, but now you're presented with several color options, a whole new design, and a hardware upgrade. With that said, let's go in-depth on Apple's latest revealed desktop.
Regarding design, the iMac is much thinner than previous-generation models, measuring a mere 11.5mm. Gone is the signature curved back, like the front bit is entirely flat.
Bringing attention to the color scheme, the rear portion of the iMac features vibrant colors, red, green, purple, orange, green, and yellow. The colors are also presented right in front of the iMac but a lighter shade. For me, standing out the most is the bezel. Though it is much thinner, you still have a sizable chin on the bottom of the display.
The measurements of the display come in at 24-inches, slightly larger than the previous-gen 21.5-inch variants. The display resolution is 4.5K capable ( 4480x2520), 500 nits brightness, and the support of True Tone technology.
Much like the latest iteration of the MacBook Air, the new iMac will also have the M1 processor, the first for the desktop product line. Apple stated the M1 processor is 85-percent faster than Intel processors currently used in previous generation iMacs, functioning under typical workloads at just 10 decibels.
Aside from the processor, in my opinion, the most significant hardware upgrade on the new iMac is the built-in Webcam. Now HD, it almost doubles in resolution from 720p to 1080p. FaceTime streams can now directly be viewed in lucid clearness. With the pandemic still looming amongst us, the new and improved Webcam on the new iMac will be ideal for videoconferencing.
Three varying color matching keyboards include an optional built-in Touch ID sensor and an integrated number pad for the iMac peripherals. There are even matching colors for the Magic Mouse and Magic Keyboard.
Pricing for the iMac will start at $1,299 containing an M1 SoC (8-core CPU 7-core GPU), 8GB of RAM, 256GB SSD, having two Thunderbolt ports. This particular configuration will come in just four color options, along with a Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse. The $1499 variant will have the same hardware specs with a bumped-up 7-core GPU, with an additional USB 3 ports, two Thunderbolt ports. It will also include a Magic Keyboard with Touch ID.
Good news for interested consumers, the new colorful iMacs are now available for purchase.
