AMD Unveils The New Radeon RX 6000M Series RDNA 2 Architecture

Just in, AMD has just unveiled their highly anticipated Radeon RX 6000M mobile series GPUs, featuring the RDNA 2 architecture. Let us dive deep into what AMD has in store for the mobile tech enthusiast.

AMD unveiling consists of three GPUs; RX 6800M, RX 6700, and RX 6600M. According to AMD, the 6800M will by far be the fastest mobile GPU for any laptop; the company made claims the 6800M will handle any game at frame rates comparable to NIVIDA's mobile RTX 3080. AMD also stated that it potentially could outperform NVIDIA's GPU while gaming on a single battery charge.

When it comes to the RX 6700M GPU, AMD states it will deliver up to 100fps in many popular gaming titles at 1440p resolution. The 6600M will offer users up to 100fps for 1080p gaming.

The Radeon RX 6000M Series's hardware specification goes as follows; the Radeon RX 6800M will have a 2.3MHz base clock, 12GB GDDR6 memory, 40 compute units, 96MB cache, 145W, and above power target. The Radeon RX 6700M to have a 2.3MHz base clock, 10GB GDDR6 memory, 80MB cache, up to 135W power target. Finally, with the Radeon RX 6600M, it will have a 2.1GHz base clock frequency, 8GB GDDR6 memory, 32MB cache, 28 compute units, up to 100W power target.

AMD also announced the AMD Advantage, a new "design framework initiative" encouraging OEMs to include various features on AMD-powered systems and indicate to consumers which Ryzen- and Radeon powered laptops AMD thinks are the best. Similar to Intel's Evo program, primarily for gaming laptops. The AMD Advantage will include the following;

  • AMD Ryzen 5000 mobile processors, Radeon 6000 graphics, and Radeon software

  • Support for AMD's Smart Access Memory and Smart Shift technology

  • A display that reaches at least 300 nits of brightness, covering either 100 percent of sRGB gamut or 72-percent of NTSC gamut, which has a 144Hz refresh rate and low latency, and supports AMD Freesync

  • At least one NVMe PCIe Express Gen 3 SSD

  • The ability to maintain a surface temperature under 40-degrees C on the WASD keys

  • Over 10-hours of video playback on a single battery charge.

AMD Advantage will debut in the new Asus ROG Strix G15 laptop. With configuration up to a Ryzen 9 5900Hx, a Radeon RX 6800M, and a 15-inch WQHD 165Hz display with a 3ms response time. Best Buy will be the first to have the G15 available for consumers this month (June). I’ll update you, readers, on a specific launch date and retail price in the coming weeks.
