The title of the post is in no way a lame clickbait attempt. Yes, there is a PCIe 5.0 SSD. Developed by Kioxia, it recently held a China Flash Market Summit. Giving a glimpse of the next-generation PCIe technology. The prototype will exceed data transfer speeds crushing any top-tier SSD's on the market regarding overall performance. It's worth noting; this SSD hails from Kioxia's data center product line.

The PCIe 5.0 will offer twice as much throughput as the current PCIe 4.0 interface. PCIe 4.0 delivers up to 16 Gbps which is impressive. Even more impressive, PCIe 5.0 doubles the data rate, up to 32 Gbps. The added throughput will enhance the performance of SSD's and hardware.

The exact read/write numbers for Kioxia's PCIe 5.0 SSD are pretty impressive, 14,000 MBps and 7,000 MBps. In comparison to CM6 PCIe 4.0 drive post, 6,900 MBps read, and 4,200 MBps write. The PCIe 5.0 SSD reveals a 103% uplift in sequential read speed and 67% write speed.

The PCIe 5.0 storage drive is made explicitly for the data centers, so you find these drives in any consumer brand PC or gaming system. It will come in both EDSFF E3 and 2.5-inch U.2 form factors Kioxia will integrate an eight-channel controller for the data center drives and up to a 16-channel controller for enterprise variants. The company also plans to offer the PCIe 5.0 SSD's from 1.65TB to 30TB.

According to reports, the plan for the PCIe 5.0 SSD release from Kioxia will be the fourth quarter of this year.
