Samsung Introduces a New TV Remote That Uses Radio Waves From a Router

Like the previous Eco Remote, the new version can be charged via solar energy. Still, Samsung adds a new RF feature capable of persevering its charge by "collecting routes" radio waves and converting their energy." Clever on behalf of Samsung. Low-powered devices such as TV remotes certainly can benefit from this new innovation from Samsung. Notably, no more AA batteries.

The RF feature aside, the ECO Remote can charge from outdoor and indoor lighting via USB-C. Samsung will first introduce a white model this year. The company states that the color scheme will best complement its "lifestyle" TVs, much like The Frame, Serif, and Sero.

The primary intent of Samsung is for consumers to ditch the AAA batteries. The company has estimated that switching to solar-powered remotes could thwart 99 million discarded batteries over a seven-year time frame. How this new remote from Samsung performs remains to be seen. But a TV remote that uses an alternative power source is innovation at its finest.
