A Recall of over 321K Model 3 and Model Y Cars from Tesla
It's not abnormal for manufacturers to recall cars with problematic issues impacting the vehicle's performance. But when you have a massive recall totaling hundreds of thousands, you know you have a severe problem, which is what's happening with Tesla. The company announced two recalls, a recent one occurring in 24 hours. In total, Tesla Motors has recalled up to 321,000 cars. The massive recall is due to malfunctioning tail lights affecting 2020-2023 Model Y abs Model 3 vehicles.
The published filing to the National Highway Traffic Safety took place this past Saturday. In the filed documents, it describes the following problems; "In rare instances, tail-lamps on one or both sides of the affected vehicles may intermittently illuminate due to a firmware anomaly that may cause false detection during the vehicle wake-up process, Brake lamps, backup lamps and turn signal lamps are not affected by this conditions and continue to operate."
The company recalled another 30,000 Model Xs this past Friday alone due to an issue causing the front passenger airbag to deploy unexpectedly. Of course, when you have recalls of this magnitude, you can almost expect stocks to plunge downward, which is what happened to about 3%—the lowest in nearly two years.
Thus far, there have been no reports of injuries or crashes from the tail light issue, which has caused mass complaints from consumers. In response to this problem, Tesla plans to release over-the-air updates. Notification will be sent to consumers beginning in January 2023.
For the past few years, having 19 recalls this year alone, Tesla has had many issues with their vehicles. Which begs the question, what's going on? I can give Tesla credit for immediately addressing this problem via OTA updates.
