Offensive words will now be automatically filtered out of Meta's Threads
Meta made an important announcement regarding Threads: offensive words, phrases, or emojis will now be filtered by default. In a post on Thursday, Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced that the new Hidden Words feature will apply to both your "Following" and "For You" feeds, along with search results, profiles, and replies to your post.
If you want your entire content filtered off Threads, users can add and hide specific words, phrases, or emojis by performing a series of tweaks inside the app’s settings. Meta states you can turn Hidden Words on or off at any time. Since 2016, users have been able to filter out abusive words from the comment section before extending the feature to DMs.
In addition, Threads is also testing out the ability to mute notifications during interaction within a post. An image shared by Meta shows how users can click on the bell icon in the top right corner to turn on or off post notifications. The social media platform also tries a feature that lets users choose who can quote your posts. Users can also unquote themselves to disallow someone from quoting a post.
Twitter ( or X) has a similar feature that lets users filter out sensitive content and mute certain words or phrases.
New features on top of existing user controls include the option for users to reply and mention you in their threads, replies, or bios. The archive post is also in the testing phase, which allows you to hide old content from the profile.
