Hardware Breakdown Presents: Apple's AirPod Pro

The probably the most popular listening device on the planet is the Apple AirPod. I mean, they are everywhere. If you live in New York City as I do or any other city, for every one person there is ten individuals with AirPod's. But despite its popularity, the AirPod for me had some glaring issues. No active noise cancellation, they don't securely stay in your ear canals and the audio quality are a bit bland.

But that all has changed. Enter the AirPod Pro.

They’re everything you’re looking for if you plan on purchasing in-ear buds rich in features, have active noise cancellation and potentially have quality audio. And importantly, now have rubber ear tips that ensures that they stay in your ear. For $230, the AirPod Pro certainly rivals the Sony's WF-1000xm3 which has enjoyed success since entering the market. Garnishing some positive consumer reviews.

So the AirPod Pro has caught my attention. Much like any tech gadget that has generated buzz among tech enthusiasts such as myself. I want examine key features that make these earbuds so special. In this new monthly episode of Hardware Breakdown, we’ll take a close look at the AirPod Pro which will definitely be the most sort after listening devices around.


The Audio Tech

The Air Pod Pro is heavily infused with some impressive audio technology. There's active noise cancellation, custom high-excursion Apple driver, vent system for pressure equalization, and custom high dynamic range amplifier. But the two features in regards to the audio technology I find interesting is Adaptive EQ and Transparency Mode. Let's explore the two in-depth.

With Adaptive EQ, it functions by automatically tuning the low- and mid-frequencies of music to shape any user's ear and customizes a high dynamic range amplifier that’s said to produce impeccable sound clarity. All while preserving battery life. Then there's Transparency Mode, another interesting piece of tech that functions similar to Apple's other branded audio device, the Beats Solo Pro. With this feature, users are still getting some active noise cancellation while getting some sound from the outside world using external microphones — a similar feature found in some earbuds on the market call Ambient sound.

Loads of Sensors

The AirPod Pro is loaded with a variety of sensors, five to be exact. It has dual beam-forming microphones, inward-facing microphones, dual optical sensors, motion-detecting accelerometer. But the one sensor that might interest the readers and will be used often is Force Sensor. You can access it by merely touching a matte black finish located on the back of the AirPods. One-touch pauses music, or plays it from pause. You can also use this feature to answer phone calls. Two squeezes forward tracks to music, and three squeezes take the music track back.

The Chip

The AirPod Pro retains its famed costumed H1 chip. Which, by the way is my favorite feature on the AirPod. You'll still get true wireless headphone support and easily connect with supported Apple products.

Lets Connect

The connectivity is made possible via Bluetooth 5.0, meaning low energy for the true wireless AirPod Pro, dual audio. And, most important, higher speeds, longer distance, and better throughput.

Then There’s The Battery

According to AirPod Pro battery specs, users can get up to 4.5 hours of listening on a single charge, up to 5 hours with active noise cancellation. Now Apple hasn't posted any specifics on how many mAh of power is the battery case — but going by first-gen AirPod case, which has a 398 mAh battery, all the added features in the AirPod Pro that includes active noise cancellation, I'm guessing ( my guess only) the battery case has a 450 mAh battery.
