These past couple of months has been a great time to be a tech enthusiast as we've witnessed several impressive gadgets and hardware launched to market. Apple launched its new flagship smartphone, the iPhone 12. Sony and Microsoft just recently launched their next-generation gaming consoles. And Nvidia launched the ever so popular RTX 3000 series graphics cards.

Just when you thought tech companies were done and launching new products, AMD a week ago, launched their next-gen and new flagship graphics card, Radeon RX 6000 series. This card has garnered positive reviews from several publications and tech YouTubers. Some even saying the graphics card is on par with Nvidia's RTX 3000 series, regarding high performance.

Lets examine the RTX 6080 XT specs and features because I feel that this particular card will be in high demand. Why has this card garnished so many high praises? Let us find out.

It’s all about the architecture

RX 6800 XT core features the RDNA 2 architecture. Using a 7nm process, the 6800 XT offers a much higher frequency at 30 percent, while having the same power draw as with previous iterations. Even though it uses the same frequency, the graphics card manages to save up to 50-percent power.

AMD uses a unique method that crosses Zen and RDNA 2 technologies while retaining the same process node. The same methodology used to build the Ryzen 5000-series CPUs operating at higher frequencies at less power.

Let’s talk specs

Let's examine the RX 6800 XT core specs because on paper, this a powerful graphics card. It has 72 CU (compute unit), with 4608 stream processors. It has a 2015 MHz in-game frequency, with a 2250 MHz boost frequency. At peak, it has 41.47 TFLOPs precision compute performance.

On the memory front, RX 6800 XT edges out Nvidia's GTX RTX 3080, having a GDDR6 16GB max memory size in comparison to 8GB, 256-bit memory interface, 16 Gbps memory speed, up to 512 GB/s memory bandwidth.

The required power

The Radeon RX 6800 XT GPU will use 300 Watts of power, a true testament to how powerful the processor is. The graphics card requires at minimum a 750 power supply unit.
