Dell XPS 16 vs MacBook Pro 16-inch, Who Wins?

Dell XPS 16 vs MacBook Pro 16-inch, Who Wins?

What we have here, in my opinion, are two of the best laptops on the market. Both are implemented with heavy-duty hardware, have a sleek, compact design, and have beautiful displays. This epic duel will be based solely on listed specs and features. The declared winner will ultimately sway my decision on a future purchase. Who will win this match? Find out in this post.

The Hardware

Both the MacBook Pro and Dell XPS have similar impeccable internal hardware. Rocking the latest Intel Core i9-9980HK processor, which by the way have a 2.4GHz core clock speed. The only difference between the two laptops in regards to the processor is with the XPS 15; users will have the ability to overclock. On the memory front, again, there is no distinct difference as both XPS 15 and MacBook Pro can go up to 32GB of RAM.

Apple has the edge here when it comes down to storage capacity. You have a choice between 4TB or 8TB SSD. In comparison, the XPS 15 will give you just 2TB of storage. But users will have the distinct honor of having an m.2 NVMe PCIe SSD. This particular storage drive has ultra-fast boot times. So, in essence, you're adding more speed to the laptop that already has a fast and powerful processor.

Edge: Dell XPS 15

The Display

When it comes to the display, you can't go wrong with either device. Both displays are simply stunning. The MacBook Pro has the 16-inch diagonal LED-backlit display, with IPS technology, 3072 x 1920 resolution. Then there is the Dell XPS 15, it has an OLED 4K display, 3840 x 2160 resolution. As I stated before you can't go wrong with either laptop. Both displays will produce excellent visuals.

EVEN

The Keyboard and Track-pad

Based on my experience in using the MacBook Pro (and MacBook Air), the whole entire product line has one the best keyboard and track-pad in the market. The overall typing is very comfortable, and no laptop on the market can outperform ultra-responsive track-pad. But since 2015, Apple implemented the much-maligned Butterfly keyboard, which drew complaints worldwide, rightfully so. Often debris would seep underneath the key switches, causing the keyboard to malfunction. Even worse, there were reports of broken keys that would pop right off or keys that wouldn't register a keystroke.

Apple has heard all the noise and has since corrected this issue. The keyboard on the MacBook Pro is now great again. Borrowing the Magic Keyboard design from the iMac. Most importantly, thus far, consumer complaints have been minimized.

On the other hand, we have the Dell XPS 15. I can attest to this claim that the majority of Windows-based laptops don't have the best keyboard and track-pad. Based on all the written reviews on the XPS 15, the keyboard is functional, but at best mediocre.

Edge: MacBook Pro

The Ports

Both laptops have a considerable amount of ports. The MacBook Pro has four Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) with support for charging, DisplayPort, Thunderbolt, and USB 3.1 2nd Gen. While the Dell XPS 15 has one Thunderbolt, DisplayPort, Two USB 3.1 Gen 1, One HDMI 2.0. But there’s one feature that gives the decided edge to the XPS 15, the SD card. Of course, you know an SD card slot makes it very easy for content creators to upload digital images and video from cameras. Dear Apple, bring back the SD card slot.

Edge: Dell XPS 15

The Battery

You get a significant amount of battery life on both laptops. More so on the MacBook Pro, giving you 11 hours of wireless web, 11 hours movie playback ( published reviews have it at 7hours movie playback), 30 days standby. With the Dell Xps 15, you have to take into account you have an OLED 4K display, an overkill Core i9 processor. The published test shows you can still get full 7 hours battery life, which isn't bad considering the internal hardware.

Edge: MacBook Pro

…..And The Winner is

The MacBook Pro 16-inch variant will be laptop of choice with most content creators, and with good reason. It’s well designed, with beefy hardware, a beautiful display and a much improved keyboard. The vast majority are saying this is by far the best laptop Apple has ever created. Probably the only downside to the MacBook Pro is the inflated Apple price tax.

But the winner of this duel and future purchase is Dell XPS 15. The bang for the buck laptop. The price is a bit less than the MacBook Pro and yet you get top notch hardware, with an amazing OLED display to boot. This laptop will be getting my money very soon. Be on the lookout for my review.
