How a firmware update on the Surface Pro X made it a game changing feature
What Microsoft has done to their Surface Pro X, I think, is a game-changer. The hybrid device received a new AI-powered feature via firmware update called Eye Contact. It uses artificial intelligence combined with Pro X ARM processor that adjusts gazing and makes it seem as though users are making direct eye contact with a person or group of people on the other end of video calls.
This feature will undoubtedly come handy with so many people working from home all due to the full world pandemic we're experiencing.
The Eye Contact feature comes in the latest firmware update for the Surface Pro X, which users can now access. The clincher here is the feature will function with several video-call apps such as the ever so popular Zoom.
Now there are some drawbacks in using Eye Contact, it can't operate while in landscape mode, and it consumes a great deal of battery power. Something that Microsoft disclosed when they first announced the firmware update while testing.
You must know, Eye Contact will not be available for other Surface devices, the reason being it uses the integrated AI processing chops of the Pro Xs SQ1 processor. So yes, call this feature an exclusive only.
Included in this firmware update for Surface Pro X are security and stability updates, and it also fixes the Camera app, preventing software crashes. As I eluded earlier in the post, the firmware is now readily available.
What is Firmware? It’s computer software that provides low-level control for any devices hardware.
