Should I get the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra or iPhone 12

Admittedly, I don't purchase smartphones every year. Nor has this website reach the level of mainstream notoriety to which companies will entrust me with loaner devices for reviews. These products are purchased using money that directly comes out of my wallet. With that said, when I gain access to the latest smartphone, I rely on upgrade deals provided by my carrier. I mean, have you seen the price of smartphones lately?

With that said, I plan on upgrading to a new smartphone very soon. While penning this post, My current device I'm using is the Galaxy S10 +, which has served me well with no complaints whatsoever. My targeted options are the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, which was just released to the market last week, or the upcoming iPhone 12, set to launch next month.

Which device should I get? Come along for reading as I'll make my choice at the end of this post, outlining several factors that may impact my final decision.

Will it be the iPhone 12?

A few years back, I switched to Android after being a long time iPhone user since it's inception. My first Android smartphone was at the time the Galaxy Edge s8. Since then, I've developed a strong allegiance to Samsung smartphones. The past couple of years, the iPhone has gone through some changes, I say that in a positive manner. The overall design is vastly different from my last Apple smartphone, which was the iPhone 6-Plus. The hardware has improved immensely. And the upcoming iOS 14 is by far the best mobile OS Apple has put out to date. Yes, I know, some of the features on there are Android inspired; nonetheless, it's welcome changes that iPhone loyalists wanted, such as widgets and multitasking capability and more.

Probably the most significant change of all is the camera. Once a weakness on the iPhone, the camera on the current iteration is the best on the market. Besting what some Andriod devices on the market are offering.

Will it be the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra?

Then there's the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. This device has garnered many positive reviews thus far, and the overall specs on the Note 20 Ultra are equally impressive. It checks all the boxes in three major categories, design, impeccable hardware, and camera. For me, the most significant selling point on the device is the design. Aside from the protruding rear camera ( the famed camera bump), the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is nicely compact and sleek.

In viewing several videos on the web, from my observation, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is seemingly, superbly a fast device. Dare I say the smartphone truly functions like a high-end handheld desktop, which is no exaggeration. The other selling point is the 120hz display, which is a pinnacle feature on this smartphone.

The decision

Right before publishing this post, I decided to purchase the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. I like what Apple brings to the table with the current iPhone 11 Max Pro, and I'm sure the next generation smartphone will be even more impressive. It has a beautiful design, a good camera, and a quality functional device. The camera on the iPhone 11 Pro Max and iOS 14 is what made me have some serious consideration into going back to Apple's flagship ( upcoming iPhone 12). But at the end of the day, there some features in Android I was not ready to give up. Plus, I have a strong admiration for Samsung smartphones. Call me a fanboy, I guess.

The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra has been in my hands now for just two whole days. So I need at least two weeks before I post a review. Stay tuned.
