Product Reveal: Samsung Reveals its PM1743 Enterprise PCIe 5.0 SSD

We're just one week away from CES 2022, and several companies have already revealed their new products. The latest is Samsung announcing their new PM1743 SSD promising astronomical speeds for consumers and enterprise-based clients.

As mentioned in the previous paragraph, speed is the focal point of this drive—the increased bandwidth made possible by next-generation bus technology, the PCIe Express 5.0.

Let's talk numbers, shall we? The PM1743 can deliver up to 13,0000MB/s and 2,500K IOPS of sequential and random read performance. The PM1743 write speed can reach up to 6,600MB/s and 250K IOPS. Samsung claims up to 608MB/s per watt power efficiency, a 30 percent boost over the previous generation model.

Samsung and Intel collaborated on testing both the PM1743 SSD and NVMe interface to ensure reliability.

Here is a word from the execs;

"Together, we have jointly resolved complicated technical issues encountered with PCIe 5.0 during this initial evaluation period. As a result, the performance potential of Gen5 is awe-inspiring. Soon, we strongly believe that PCIe Gen5 systems with high-speed NVMe SSDs will have the ability to transform applications such as AI/ML and high-performance."

-Jim Pappas Dir of Technology Initiatives, Intel

Samsung will offer PM1743 in storage capacities ranging from 1.92TB to 15.36TB. Form factors for the drives will come in both 2.5-inch and 3-inch EDSFF.

Currently, Samsung is offering sample PM1743 to chipset and server manufacturers and will start mass-producing the storage drive in the first quarter of 2022.
