Here's What You Need To Know About The Intel 11th Gen Core Rocket Lake-S Processor

It’s official; Intel has raised the curtains and revealed their new 11th generation Core Rocket Lake S desktop processors. Let's not waste any time in this intro and outline some key features. Here's what you need to know.

Pay close attention to these key features.

Performance gains are the theme here with the Rocket Lake S processor. As claimed by Intel, it includes a 19 percent IPC lift over its previous-gen Comet Lake S. The processor also consists of the 12 generations Xe graphics on its desktop variant and will fully support the PCIe 4.0 interface.

Let us turn our attention to IPC. It attributed to Intel's new Cypress Core architecture, with a 14nm backport of its 10nm Sunny Cove Ice Lake microarchitecture.

Other features in Rocket Lake-S include up to 20 PCIe 4.0 lanes, support for DDR4-3200 memory, and a Resizable Bar for AMD/NVIDIA graphics cards.

The Rocket Lake S processors will still be compatible with the current 400 series motherboards. But for optimal performance and features, that will take place on the new 500 Series motherboard. Speaking of which, the 500 Series motherboards are based on the Z590 chipset, supporting USB 3.2 2x2 20 Gbps connectivity, memory overclocking is extended to H570 and B560 chipsets, and will now support discrete WiFi 6E connectivity along with Thunderbolt 4.

The Rocket Lake-S product lineup

The low-end option starts with the six core 12 Tread Core i5 11400T processor with a 1.3GHz base clock, a 3.7GHz Turbo Boost 2.0 clock, and an all-core Turbo clock of 3.3GHz. The top-end edition is the Core i9-11900K, having a 125 TDP, 8-cores, and 16 threads, down 10-cores and 20 threads on the Core i9-10900K. It will have a 3.5GHz base clock, 5.1 GHz Turbo Boost 2.0 clock, 5.2GHz Turbo Boost Max clock, 5.35GHz Thermal Velocity Boost clock.

Retail pricing and release date

The retail price range will start at $182 for the Core i3-11400T 6-core and 12 threads, up to $359 for the Core i9-11900K, $513 for the Core i9 11900KF. I'm betting many PC builders will likely be drawn to the Core i7-11700K, priced at $399, $379 for the Core i7 1100KF.

The entire Rocket Lake S processor lineup goes on sale on March 30th.
