In Other News: Microsoft Wants to Acquire Discord a Messaging App For $10Billion
Microsoft wants to make another significant acquisition; who do they have in their crosshairs, you ask? Discord, an ever-so-popular video messaging platform that gaming enthusiasts mainly use. Then there are also talks of Discord taking the company public, giving the company two options on the surface.
As reported by VentureBeat, Discord has been in the process of seeking a $10 billion acquisition deal after several buyers expressed interest. But sources close to Bloomberg suggests Discord would probably take the company public then seek a sale.
Bloomberg also states that Epic Game and Amazon have also held talks with Discord in the past.
There are roughly 140 million monthly users while earning $130 million in revenue last year. The Wall Street Journal recently reported it has yet to gain profit, despite having a $7 billion valuation after a funding round last December, which earned $100 million.
Discord is accessible to all users for free. But the company does earn money via a $9.99 monthly subscription fee, offering advanced features that include higher resolution screen sharing, extra sticker packs, and unlimited uploads.
