NVIDIA'S Enhanced Anti-Mining GPU is Set To Launch in May
Nvidia has just released their GeForce 466.24 driver update while also confirming a specific launch date for an anti-mining limiter. As told by Nvidia: "This driver updates the hash limiter for the GeForce RTX 3060 12GB and is required for product shipped starting in mid-May."
The information provided in the new GeForce driver proved legitimacy to all the rumors that Nvidia will most certainly launch a revised Ampere graphics card taking place in mid-May. The new graphics card availability will take place in June. The primary purpose of the revised GPU is to thwart cryptocurrency miners from hoarding graphics cards, which is the primary reason there is a mass shortage.
Nvidia's first attempt at implementing an anti-mining algorithm was an epic failure. According to reports, the Beta GeForce driver wasn't even fully functional. Dare I say useless.
As explained by Nvidia, the hash rate limiter will involve a handshake between the driver, silicon, and Firmware. Nvidia went as far as to switch Ampere dies entirely within the current GeForce RTX 30 product line for whole new silicon and new PCI Device IDs.
Even though the new GeForce driver update is aimed at the RTX 3060, it remains to be seen whether the rest of the RTX 30 Series product line will get the same treatment. If so, we'll inform you, readers.
