Without Throttling, the Gigabyte Aorus Gen4 7000s Prem Can Achieve Sequential Read Speed Up To 7000MB/sec
Today, SSD's are now pushing the boundaries of sequential read speeds. Some are now achieving speeds up to 6,500MB sec, even higher at 7,000MB/ sec. But what often happens with hardware achieving ultra-fast speeds is performance throttling due to vast heat build-up. Gigabyte may have found a solution, limiting performance throttling by connecting a massive heat sink on their latest storage drive, the Aorus Gen4 7000s Prem SSD.
Let's examine the Aorus Gen4 7000s, Prem, because it has insane sequential read speeds of up to 7,000MB/sec ( hence the drive's name). The sequential read speeds vary depending on option storage capacity. The 2TB SKU option is rated for up to 6,5850MB/sec, while the 1TB SKU is rated up to 5,500MB/sec. The SSD itself uses a Phison E18 controller, DDR4 DRAM cache, and 3D TLC NAND.
According to Gigabyte, using extensive testing, the Aorus Gen4 7000s can function at 7000MB/sec for over 8-hours without any depletion in performance, thanks in part to the M.2 Thermal Guard Xtreme cooling system, the heat sink you see in the image. The entire cooling system is constructed out of a solid base aluminum plate, with a high thermal conductivity pad placed on both sides of the SSD, and the actual dual-heat-pipe cooler is coated with nano-carbon.
Oversize cooling setups can present a problem if you have limited space to work inside your PC case or on the motherboard.
It’s worth noting, the Aorus Gen4 7000s Prem SSD rates up to 1.6 million hours MTBF, with a five-year warranty.
At present, there is no listed price point, but based on the standard Aorus Gen4 7000s without the heat-sink, the 1TB option is priced at $199.99, while the 2TB option is $379.99. With the added massive heat sink, the retail price should double.
