Sabrent Unveils The XTRM-Q External Thunderbolt SSD With an Whopping 16GB Capacity

Sabrent has just launched what has to be their biggest external SSD in regards to storage capacity. The new XTRM-Q has an immense storage space, coming in at 16TB, twice as much they're offering with other branded options.

The Rocket XTRM-Q design features an aluminum outer shell measuring 6.6 x 6.3 x 3.1 inches, weight coming in at 2 pounds. This particular external SSD is slightly different from the competitive options on the market due in part to the additional SSDs encased within its aluminum structure. The Rocket XTRM-Q has two 8TB SSDs. Now what's so unique about this external SSD is you can operate it independently or in RAID 0 or RAID 1 array configuration. A third configuration is present on this external SSD, JBOD mode; when the drive has reached its max capacity, the next drive is still operational with the same data.

You should know this external SSD is insanely fast, with sequential read speeds up to 1,400 MBps. To achieve faster max performance from each storage drive, you'll have to operate two SDDs in RAID 0 configuration, which will then max out at 2,800 MBps sequential read.

The Rocket XTRM-Q uses an Intel JHL7440 Thunderbolt controller. So to achieve maximum data transfer speeds, it's required that you use a Thunderbolt 3 cable.

OK, so let's talk price and availability. The Sabrent Rocket XTRM-Q is only for users with very deep pockets. It retails for a whopping $2,899.99 and currently available on Amazon. Of course, this insanely priced external SSD is backed by a one-year warranty, with an option to extend the warranty period up to five years.
