Maintenance Supplies Needed to Keep Your PC Clean
Dust build-up on fans and vents inside the PC can obstruct airflow, thus causing critical components to overheat. Impeding system performance. But this doesn't have to happen. There are preventive measures you can take to minimize dust build-up.
Below, I've listed a few items you'll need to keep your PC pristine clean.
Screwdriver
Most desktops PC chassis have thumbscrews, making it easy to access internal hardware without using tools. But if you plan on deep cleaning your PC, a screwdriver is a necessary need. Preferably you would need a Phillips-head screwdriver to detach components such as the graphics card, hard drives, and CPU from the motherboard.
Micro Fiber Cloth
Microfiber cloths should be in every PC maintenance toolbox. The materials woven into fabric make it easy to lift dust and debris off components without leaving behind lint residue. Microfiber cloths are also ideal for cleaning leftover thermal paste off processors.
Cleaning Swabs
I find it difficult trying to remove dust between cooling fan blades with a cloth or paper towels. In comes the cleaning swab. Perfect for cleaning in between the fan blades and also can be used to clean hard-to-reach sections on the motherboard.
Isopropyl alcohol 99%
Isopropyl alcohol at 99% has a fast evaporation rate. A big plus when cleaning PC hardware. But alcohol with a high rate of evaporation is somewhat pricey. Several vendors sell the next best option, which is 71% isopropyl alcohol, which works just as well.
Electric Air Duster
Not only are electric dusters eco-friendly, but they're more potent than compressed air that comes in a can. They also serve a multi-functional purpose that goes beyond cleaning PCs, such as household cleaning duties. The only caveat with electric dusters is they generate a lot of heat upon usage, and they're not cheap, with an average price of $50.
It's worth noting before you engage in any cleaning tasks regarding PCs, make sure you power down your machine and ground yourself.
