Nothing Unveils The Ear 1 $99 True Wireless Earbuds: Here's what you need to know
Nothing is an actual name of a tech startup headed by OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei. However, the company has just officially announced its true wireless noise cancellation earbuds, the Ear 1. This official launch comes after several months of concept images circulating on the internet. In addition, as part of a marketing strategy, Nothing auctioned off 100 pre-sale earbuds, adding to the earbuds' hype.
The Ear 1 has a unique design based on transparent plastic, revealing integral internal circuitry. The earbuds are color-coded, with red and white indicating the corresponding ear placement. Audio is made possible by an equipped with 11.6mm drivers. The hardware and software are tuned by the Swedish electronics house Teenage Engineering.
The Ear 1 battery life is rated up to 34 hours when they are in the charging case, 5-7 hours of music playback with ANC off, with ANC on, you get a drop off at 24 hours and 4 hours. The Ear 1 earbuds can be charged wireless using Qi-compatible charging devices. You also have the option to use a wired USB-C charging cable.
The noise cancellation technology with the Ear 1 is rather interesting. There are three microphones on each earbud offering noise cancellation. Users have the option to set for loud environments, light if it's quiet, and like most ANC headphones on the market, the Ear 1 can be switched to transparency mode when you want to hear your surroundings. The earbuds also have the unique ability to cancel out any background noise when engaged in a phone call.
Ear1 features customizable tap and gesture control via the app with EQ settings and the Find my Earbuds feature. Other exciting features are Bluetooth 5.2, and the earbuds have an IPX4 rating which should withstand sweat and tiny droplets of water. But, unfortunately, instant pairing support is only compatible with Android devices.
The Ear 1 is priced at $99 US and 99 pounds UK. The sale start date is August 17th across 45 countries, including the ones I just mentioned. Nothing will sell a limited batch from their website taking place on July 31st. My gut feeling tells me the Ear 1 will sell out fast. So any interested patrons should bookmark their website right now.
