Tekspecz Back to School Tech Buyers Guide 2022 Presents: Tablets

Tablets have become the perfect device for reading, researching, taking notes, and completing assigned tasks. Some students prefer tablets over a laptop because it's more portable, have potent hardware rivaling laptops regarding performance, and are a valuable option for any student. In addition, the tablet is the perfect tool for note-taking during lectures and seminars, using additional peripherals ( sold separately) such as the keyboard and stylus. Most tablets now come with stylus support making them the best option for students.

School is starting soon, so we'll simplify your search for a tablet by compiling a list of recommended tablets, including the high-end and budget options.

The Apple Option:

iPad Air

Since its inception ( 12 years and counting), manufacturers are still playing catch up to Apple's iPad. And rightfully so, like the MacBook, the software seamlessly works well with hardware; it's easy to use and stable. The iPad falls under several variants: Pro, Mini, and Air. For me, the clear choice for students is the iPad Air (2022). Not only the best option for just students but any consumer.

The fifth generation iPad Air starts at $599. I think it's the perfect tablet for students majoring in art and design. It's a mid-range device that's not too big or small, perfect for note taking (stylus sold separately) and drawing. In addition, the iPad Air is 60% faster than previous versions due in part to Apple's M1 processor.

The Andriod option:

Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra

The best Android tablet on the market is Samsung's Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra. However, when it comes to performance and hardware, it's on par with Apple's high-end iPad Pro. The massive AMOLED display dwarfs the iPad Pro, measuring 14.9 inches. As a result, the Galaxy Tab 8 Ultra is the best Android option for students who want the extra display space for note-taking or sketching with an S Pen stylus. By the way, it comes with the tablet upon purchase, making it a valuable selling point.

The internal components configured in the Galaxy Tab 8 Ultra are pretty impressive, featuring a Snapdragon 8Gen processor, up to 16GB RAM, and up to 512GB of storage. However, high-end specs might not be necessary for some students; as an option, you might consider purchasing the cheaper standard Tab S8.

The Amazon Budget Option

Fire HD 8 Tablet

So you don’t have the money for a high-end tablet; fret not. There are some budget options on the market, and though you may not get the high-end specs like the tablets listed above, you still get the same functionality as any other tablet. Look no further than Amazon’s Fire HD 8 for a reasonably priced tablet that surprisingly has impressive features.

Prime membership will enable you to take full advantage of the Amazon ecosystem. With the Fire HD 8, download books via the Kindle app and access the Alexa voice assistant feature. In addition, download Netflix, Hulu, and Disney Plus streaming apps. It’s worth noting that the number eight refers to the size of the device, which is 8-inch. If you want a bigger model, there is the Fire HD 10.
