Amazon expands Ring product line with a Dashcam include dual facing HD and night vision cameras
So we have more significant 2023 CES reveals, this time coming from Amazon, which introduced their all-new Ring Car Cam—expanding their Ring surveillance camera product line.
The new Ring Car Cam is a security camera whose primary intent is to be the watchful eyes of your car, featuring a dual-sense camera that can detect activity such as a break-in and will start recording. The overall design of the device is rather abstract from what we're used to seeing with most dashcams on the market. What stands out is how the camera pod sits directly on top of the cantilever arm.
According to Amazon, installation is intuitive. Mount it to any windshield or dashboard, plug the device directly into the vehicle's OBD-ll port, and tuck the cable neatly along the dash. The thickness of the camera's arm keeps the camera stable. There is no word from Amazon if there is an image stabilization mechanism within the camera. Amazon hasn't disclosed full specifications other than having a wide-angle 1080p camera with Night Vision tech. The Ring Car Cam includes a flip-up privacy cover for the cabin camera; the mic shuts off when in functional mode. In addition, the camera boasts a Traffic Stop feature, which allows users to start recording if they are pulled over or in an accident.
Ring Car Cam features motion detection and sentry mode during vehicle operation, like most dashcams on the market. Now, what's an Amazon device without Alexa integration? It understands specific commands such as "Alexa, record," with two-way talk and can check camera feeds within the Ring app. In addition, the Dashcam can operate with or without the Ring Protection Go subscription service, which is $6 a month; you can download and share video feeds for up to 180 days of highlights.
A questionable downside to this Dashcam is the dreaded paywall; the only way to receive notification about the events in your car is to have the Protection Go subscription package. Otherwise, the vehicle must be within the range of a WiFi connection.
Amazon Ring Car Cam is now available to pre-order for $199.99 but will increase to $250 at retail. Amazon will begin shipping the Car Cam to consumers on February 15th.
