Twitter re-verifies blue check accounts for deceased celebrities
Since Elon promised to remove the famed Blue Check verification from unpaid subscribers last week, the Blue Check diabolical continues. As claimed by Twitter, you now have several high-profile accounts that appear to be re-verified. What's disturbing is a number of these re-verified accounts include dead celebrities. Yes, I know, creepy.
This is likely due to human error on behalf of Twitter, as they're restoring verification accounts with over one million followers. Even restoring Blue verified accounts of celebrities who are no longer alive. The list of names includes Chadwick Boseman, Kobe Bryant, Barbara Walters, and Paul Walker. All these mentioned celebs have had their verification status restored. Strangely, Twitter also claims to have paid $8 a month for a Blue Check verification for a world-renowned journalist Jamal Khashoggi who is also not alive. He was murdered in 2018.
Just observe the image above, a verified Kobe Bryant account using a phone number. And we all know this NBA legend has been dead for three years. But, according to Twitter, many of these accounts of deceased users are still managed by various organizations. For example, Chadwick Boseman of the Arts keeps his account active and verified. But many accounts have been dormant for years and are still being re-verified.
I, for one, have no intention of paying for a verification Blue check mark, all for the sole purpose of gaining social media credibility. Several celebrities feel the same. LeBron James and Stephen King, two legends in their respective fields, refuse to pay for verification status. However, Mr. Musk personally paid for their verification status. In my opinion, a desperate move to keep high-profile figures from deleting their accounts.
I'm almost sure we haven't heard the last of Twitter's infamous Blue Check drama. The saga continues.
