Google reveals a new the Pixel Fold smartphone ahead of May 10th I/O event
Rumors have been circulating for months that Google will soon introduce the company’s first foldable smartphone, the Pixel Fold. Well, it turns out the stories are indeed true. Google will make their announcement at this year’s Google 1/O 2023 event, which is set to take place on May 10th.
Currently, Google hasn't revealed any specs or features for the device. For now, we're treated to a brief teaser video showing a full-size outer display on the smartphone that opens up, similar to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold. In the video, you can also see the signature camera bar on the back of the device.
In April, CNBC reported and gave full details on the device's measurements, a 5.8-inch that opens up to a 7.6-inch tablet. Features will include a Google Tensor G2 processor and a durable hinge on a foldable. The report also reveals a $1,700 price tag, almost the same price as Samsung's Z Fold 4, $1,799.
Google's Fold was expected to launch last year, but for various reasons, it didn't make an appearance at I/O 2022. So instead, Google focused on aiding Android developers to produce apps that function on foldable devices and large screens.
Google's annual I/O event will take place on May 10th; once the reveal is made, we will give a full breakdown of the Pixel Fold. Stay tuned.
