Seagate launches a FireCuda 540 PCie 5.0 SSD
Seagate launched the FireCuda 540, their first solid-state drive that uses the next Gen PCie 5.0 bus. Joining a growing market of companies with SSDs that use the new bus technology. The specs and features, which we'll address later, consumer target is " gamers, content creators, and tech enthusiasts."
The FireCuda 540 primary selling pointing is compatible with the PlayStation console. Solid-state drives with ultra-fast read/write speeds can get hot. Seagate suggests consumers attach a heatsink or heat transfer sheet to the storage drive.
Regarding the specs, the FireCuda 540 will come in two storage capacities, including 2TB and 1TB variants. Both drives will be embedded with a 3D triple-level cell NAND flash memory, and according to Seagate, there is a Phison E26 series controller. It's worth noting the E26 is capable of enhancing read speeds up to 14,000MB/s and up to 11,8000MB/s sequential write speed. However, the read/ write speeds on the FireCuda 540 are decreased by about a 2TB model delivers up to 10,000MB/s respectably for both reads and writes, while the 1TB model delivers up to 9,500MB/s for sequential reads and 8,500 for sequential writes.
The capacities for both models are rated up to 1,500,000 IOPS for 4K random writes, the 4K random reads t 1,490,000 IOPS, and 1,300,000 IOPS for the 2TB and 1TB storage drives.
The endurance numbers on both drives have an MTBF (mean time before failure) rating of 1.8 million hours, in addition to 2,000 terabytes written for the 2TB. According to Seagate," rite and delete up to 1TB of storage space every day for five years."
The FireCuda 540 series SSD is in stock on Newegg, $319.99 for the 2TB model and $189.99 for the 1TB model. Amazon surprisingly does not have the drive in stock yet. We'll post an update when the online vendor lists the storage drive.
