Sony has begun testing a new PlayStation 5 software beta supporting Dolby and up to 8TB of M.2 SSD
We have a significant software update coming done on the pipe from Sony. The company is currently testing a new Playstation 5 software beta. This software update includes Dolby Atmos support, up to 8TB of M. 2 NVMe SSD storage support, and console UI improvements. As of today, the beta software is rolling out in select countries. PlayStation 5 owners will likely see some beta features appear in the console UI in the coming months.
Look go in depth of what will be included in this beta software.
The most significant feature of the beta software is Dolby Atmos support. The Tempest hardware in the PS5 makes 3D Audio possible. It will be compatible with Dolby Atmos devices like the sound bar, TVs, and home theater systems. Netflix and other media apps on the PS5 in the future will also support Dolby Atmos audio. It's worth noting; The Tempest hardware renders Dolby Atmos devices while in use. It allows substantial levels of immersion in PS5 games.
Currently, the PS5 supports up to 4TB of expandable M. 2 SSD storage, but the new software update will increase storage support by up to 8TB, giving users more storage options. And also, store more games on your drive because we all know how these games can consume an exuberant amount of storage space.
In addition, there will be a bevy of improvements to the UI. Users can now mute the PS5 sound when the console is powered on or off or goes into test mode. As an option from Sony, users can change the beep sound volume.
The software update will allow users to enable haptic feedback from the DualSense controller while browsing the user interface. In addition, with the controller, sound effects can move from one section to another, triggering haptics. Alongside the controller’s haptic feedback, there is a new accessibility feature that lets you assign a second controller to one account and use it as an assist controller. The benefit of this feature is that you can help other PS5 users navigate an intricate part of a game or navigate the UI.
PlayStation 5 owners who want access to the system software beta must receive an invite from PlayStation (or Sony). Currently, the updates are now rolling out. Periodically check for beta software updates.
