Software News: YouTube is rolling out enhanced 1080p playback options for Premium users
You know it's currently a slow time in tech when we report on any significant news that entails software. Or we're trying to find something essential to write about. Nonetheless, here's some information for you guys, YouTube users will soon see a new option for the video platform for Premium subscription users. According to reports, the YouTube 1080p playback option with "enhanced bitrate" is now available on the desktop of every computer user around the globe. The feature is located directly above the 1080p option in the menu. Clicking on the feature will prompt users to pay for the Premium if they aren't subscribed.
I have known about these features for months now. Earlier this year, YouTube started testing the 1080p Premium feature, stating in a quote, "version of 1080p will provide more information per pixel that results in a higher quality viewing experience." A higher bitrate measures the amount of video data transferred within a specific timeframe, providing viewers better quality without users having to watch in higher resolution. This all means users can now stream large files.
The new 1080p feature was rolled out on iOS a few months ago. However, users will access this feature on other platforms, including a computer. YouTube recently raised prices for a Premium subscription from $12 to $14 and from $120 a year to $140. The new 1080p enhanced feature, including offline viewing and background playback, may justify the price hike.
