Apple's "Project Titan" electric car is now dead, let me explain
Well, that sucks; Apple’s EV car will not come to fruition. After almost a decade of consumer anticipation, speculation, and rumors, as reported by Bloomberg, Apple has officially scrapped its ambitious electric car project. Internally known as "Project Titan,” Apple aimed to produce luxurious, self-driving electric vehicles rivaling the likes of Tesla, Lucid, and other established EV car manufacturers. However, branding an EV car proved to be very challenging for Apple.
Initially, Project Titan was to achieve Level-4 self-driving capabilities, which was eventually scaled back to a more modest level 2+ system. There was even a pending release date from Apple, slated for 2020, but it was pushed back to 2028 due to setbacks resulting in delays.
According to Bloomberg, Apple will now use their talented engineers and designers from Project Titan and transition to AI projects within Apple. Being that many reputable tech companies have already made AI technology. The company's focus shifts from physical vehicles to virtual networks. It’s safe to say Apple has learned a significant lesson; even a well-established being a well-established tech company will find it challenging to mass-produce EV cars, especially if you're venturing into the automobile industry, which is unfamiliar territory.
Apple's roadmap now points toward mixed reality, wearables, and generative AI. The Vision Pro headset has already made the initial first steps into augmented reality and has garnered consumer attraction.
So Project Titan, for now, is dead, or is it? Don’t be surprised if, one day, Apple pulls a power play and makes an offer to an EV car manufacturer they can't refuse. Lucid, Frisker, are you listening?
