2024 could be the year Apple switch to the USB-C for the AirPods and Mac accessories
Yes, you read the title of this post correctly. According to the latest Bloomberg reports, Apple plans to implement USB-C to current generation AirPods and Mac accessories. The switch will take place in 2024.
The author of the Bloomberg report, Mark Gurman, states the shift away from Apple's Lightning Cable comes at a time when the European Union is now mandating USB-C charging for new smartphones, tablets, and headphones. However, as of now, the European Parliament hasn't signed it into policy.
In complying with the rules, we could see the USB-C charging ports on the next-gen AirPods Pro and AirPods in 2024, as stated in the intro. In addition, Mac accessories such as Magic Mouse, Magic Keyboard, and Magic Trackpad could also make the switch to USB-C.
However, the transition to USB-C may be short-lived. The Gurman Bloomberg report suggests that Apple will introduce "Inductive Charging" to the iPhone and iPad taking place in a few years so that they can circumvent the legislation. Either way, Apple will phase out the archaic Lightning cable.
