Lenovo held their version of an unpacked event this week, revealing a couple of new notebooks in their ThinkPad product line. But what caught my attention was the ThinkPad X1 Fold, claiming the title as being the world's first foldable PC.

The X1 Fold is very much like Samsung's Galaxy Fold, but the only thing it's a fully functional computer with a 13-inch OLED screen retailing for $2,499 and is now available for pre-order.

Two words describe the ThinkPad X1 Fold, multi-faceted. One folding motion morphs the device into a large tablet, unfold it, and now has a split-screen with two adjacent displays. Users can prop the machine up and use it as a functioning 13-inch notebook. As an option, you can connect a detachable keyboard and easel stand to X1 Fold. You can fold it 90-degrees and turn it vertically, functioning as a miniature laptop ( a keyboard touch screen pops on the bottom half). Turn it horizontally, and now you have an e-reader, and as an option, you can use a stylus. If you fold the entire laptop, you now have a compact device, making it easy to fit in any backpack.

When it comes to hardware specs, the X1 Fold will come with an 11th generation Intel Core i5 L16G7 processor ( 1.40 GHz clock speed, 3.0GHz boost clock), 8GB of LPDRX4 RAM, up to 1TB PCIe SSD storage. You have 13.3-inch QXGA Foldable 2K 1536 x 2048 resolution OLED touchscreen with the display type measuring 300 nits. Like most laptops on the market, the ThinkPad X1 Fold will come with standard ports, starting with two USB-C ports and, importantly, a SIM-card slot for expandable storage.

Just a reminder, the ThinkPad X1 Fold starts at $2,499, at this time there is no set release date.
