Explanation Needed : What is Bluetooth 5.0?

I’m in the minority who feels Bluetooth connectivity is the greatest thing ever since the creation of user interface operating systems. The fact that you can connect devices without wires always fascinated me. In my opinion, a technological game changer. However, at one time, the wireless connectivity wasn't perfect. Often there were instability issues that included poor audio quality or devices suddenly would lose connection. However, as years passed, Bluetooth wireless technology Improved immensely, now having impeccable audio quality and potent connection to PC peripherals.

Currently, Bluetooth 5.0 wireless standard is widely implemented in many devices, with good reason. Compared to Bluetooth 4.2, 5.0 uses less power; it's twice as fast, has four times the range, and transfers eight times as much data. So it's no wonder why wired connectivity is rapidly phasing out. Just look at Apple and Samsung. Their flagship mobile devices no longer have a headphone jack.

In this newly written episode of Explanation Needed, we'll explore Bluetooth 5.0 and reveal how it operates and its benefits.

So what exactly is Bluetooth? 5.0 that is

Bluetooth 5.0 is the latest wireless protocol. It's mainly used in wireless headphones, portable speakers, and smart home devices. There are various improvements with Bluetooth 5.0 when used with compatible devices. However, you won't see immediate benefits if users have a smartphone with Bluetooth 5.0 and connect it with devices that still have an older version of wireless connectivity. Still, Bluetooth technology is backward compatible. It’s worth noting the Samsung Galaxy S8 was the first smartphone with Bluetooth 5.0 wireless protocol, implemented back in 2014. Today, you won’t find many smartphones that don’t have Bluetooth 5.0.

Bluetooth 5.0 uses less energy.

The most significant thing about Bluetooth 5.0 is it features Bluetooth Low Energy, which was introduced back with Bluetooth 4.0. It was primarily designed to reduce the energy usage of Bluetooth peripherals, including wearables, beacons, and other lower-powered devices. For example, before the wireless connectivity upgrade, wireless headphones couldn't connect over Bluetooth Low Energy. This is because, initially, wireless headphones used the old Bluetooth standard, which consumed an abundant amount of power. However, with Bluetooth 5.0, any device communicates over Bluetooth Low Energy, reducing power usage while extending battery life.

You get Dual Audio

Another great feature of Bluetooth 5.0 is Dual-Audio. The feature's name speaks for itself. Users can connect two audio devices simultaneously. For example, you can connect two wireless headphones to a single smartphone and stream audio to both headphones over a single Bluetooth connection. Bluetooth 5.0 will even allow you to stream two audio sources (Spotify and Pandora) to other audio devices.

Added Speed Plus Throughput equal distant

Of all Bluetooth 5.0 primary benefits, the direct use is much-improved speed and excellent range. In other words, it’s faster and can function over significant distances than the older version of Bluetooth technology. This is factual and proven to be true. For example, I can listen to audio from my smartphone via wireless headphones 30 ft away while maintaining crystal clear audio. In addition, Bluetooth 5.0 has four times the range, two times the speed, and eight times the broadcasting capacity of older versions of Bluetooth.

With Bluetooth 5.0, devices can transfer data at speeds up to 2 Mbps, doubling Bluetooth 4.2. In addition, device connectivity can communicate over distances of up to 800 feet, four times the 200 ft offered by Bluetooth 4.2.
